The Messenger Project - Whitechapel Mission Homeless Shelter
The aim of this project was to create a communication between two womens’ homeless shelters - one in London and the other in Miami.
The participants were asked to send a message of support through the medium of textiles. They created individual pieces using different textile techniques.
The women chose the message they would like to give to a woman in a similar position to themselves, offering their support.
The messages were then transferred onto fabrics and embellished with textile and art techniques.
The individual messages were stitched together in each location and then sent to the other shelter.
Both groups of women enjoyed the process of learning new skills and then receiving messages of support back.
